A Complete Customizable Embroidered Patch: Variations in Coverage
The basis for Embroidered Patches is a piece of fabric, a solid colour Twill Weave. The background colour, if you wish. The artwork (text, logo) is embroidered on top of that fabric. Depending on the design, the Twill Fabric can be fully covered by embroidery, or only partially covered.
The coverage percentage influences the price of the Embroidered Patch. The more coverage, the higher the price.
Up to 50% coverage
- Used often for Text-Only designs
- Much of the background (Twill Fabric) is visible
75% coverage
- Most Patch Designs
- Between 50% - 75% of the twill is covered by your design
100% coverage
- Between 75% - 100% of the twill is covered by your design.
- The result is a thicker Patch
How To Attach Embroidered Patches To Textiles
Choose from the following application methods when ordering your Embroidered Patches.
- Sew-on – Our most popular option. Sew the patch directly onto the clothing, or fabric. This way, you ensure that the patch is firmly attached.
- Iron-on – A heat-sensitive adhesive is added to the back of the patch. Use an iron, or heat-press to attach the patch to the fabric. Quick and easy, but less durable than Sew-on.
- Single-sided Velcro – The hook/rough side of the Velcro is applied to the back of the patch. The patch can be directly attached to soft fabrics like felt, or any piece of loop/ soft side Velcro.
- Double-sided Velcro – The hook/rough side of the Velcro is applied to the back of the patch. Comes with a matching loop/soft side piece of Velcro in the shape of your patch, which is to be sewn onto your fabric.
- Stick-on – A self-adhesive backing is added to the back of the patch. These patches can be applied only to solid surfaces, not to fabric.

Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Embroidered Patches
How Long Does It Take To Produce Custom Embroidered Patches?
Once your order is placed, our customer service team meticulously reviews your artwork to ensure everything is just right. Once the green light is given, production begins on your labels, patches, and tags. Our goal is to process all orders within 10-14 working days from the time of ordering. Do You Offer Patches Specifically For Clothing?
Our Embroidered Patches aren't limited to just garments! They're perfect for adding a personal touch to hats, bags, home furnishings, hiking gear, and more. With endless options, an Embroidered Patch can look exactly as you imagined and be applied to all kinds of surfaces.
What Are The Differences Between Embroidered & Woven Patches?
Woven Patches and Embroidered Patches are a bit similar, but there are a few key differences.
- Embroidery is basically stitching a design onto piece of fabric. You can feel the design (text/ logo). Woven Patches on the other hand are woven "from scratch". The design is part of the weave pattern. The surface of the patch is smooth, you cannot feel the text or logo.
- This difference in production process makes Embroidered Patches more textured and slightly thicker than Woven Patches.
- Choose a Woven Patch if your design is complex and detailed. Our woven patches are better at capturing finer details than our embroidered patches. Note, if you have a design that uses more than 12 colours or has colour gradients, consider a Printed Patch.
- Overall, Embroidered Patches are ideal for capturing retro or vintage designs and are instantly recognizable as the iconic clothing patch everyone knows and loves.
