The key distinction between a woven patch and a woven label is that your design is woven onto a durable paper backing for extra sturdiness, making it perfect for sewing onto items as a patch.

Woven Patches make it quick & easy to customise your uniforms, sportswear or school wear and are typically added to clothing, bags, hats and other fabric based items. They're also a great way for businesses and organisations to display their logo, business name, or team name, which is why they are so commonly used by sports teams, the military, motorbike clubs, on school uniforms, and any other club kit. There are a number of different application methods to choose from when working with woven patches:

• Sew-on patches – paper backing only
• Single-sided velcro – comes with both paper backing and the hook/rough side of velcro, making it ideal for attaching to soft surfaces such as felt, or even the loop/soft side of your own velcro
• Double-sided velcro – includes paper backing and the hook/rough side of velcro, as well as a matching loop/soft side of velcro in the same shape as your woven patch that can also be sewn onto your item

Only available for merrow edge patches:

• Iron-on patches – paper backing is accompanied by a heat-sensitive adhesive layer for textiles
• Stick-on patches – this patch type has a paper backing and a self-adhesive layer, making it ideal for solid surfaces

All Woven Patches are created using a damask weave, allowing you to choose up to twelve colours per design. We use only the best-in-quality yarns and professional dye techniques to create Woven Patches that will resist fading and colour bleeding. Dutch Label Shop Woven Patches are available in two different edge finishes; Merrow Edge or Laser Cut Edge. Merrow edges are most commonly used when working with a more rustic or vintage style of woven patches, since they have a raised stitched border around the edge of the Woven Patch. This classic finish makes the patches stronger and more long-lasting.

However, if you're looking to create a Woven Patch with a custom shape or a slightly more complex design, a laser-cut edge is probably the best option. This edge finishing is flatter and has a sealed edge, making it easier to discreetly blend your Woven Patches in with the rest of the garment.

Although most of us have more practice using embroidered patches, Woven Patches share a similar style and application method for customising your items. However, unlike their embroidered patch counterparts, which are made by stitching a design onto an existing fabric base, Woven Patches are crafted by weaving the entire patch from scratch to replicate your design. This weaving technique uses finer threads and less layering compared to embroidery techniques, resulting in a smoother finish that is ideal for capturing intricate details.

While both options are an effective and attention-grabbing way to embellish garments and textile items, Woven Patches distinguish themselves by being softer, less bulky, and better at capturing minute details. This makes them our preferred choice.
