Food
What are your favorite fall foods? I can’t keep my hands off of squash – butternut, acorn, pumpkin – all the squash! The combination of greens, yellows, and oranges in squash is a perfect starting point for all your autumn projects.
And what says fall more than apple picking? The chill of the air, the crunch of the leaves, the winey smell of fruit on the ground – it’s the epitomal autumn experience. Not to mentioning the gold, rose, and green of the apple orchard is ideal for autumn.
Flowers
You’ve heard of spring flowers, but what about the luscious hues of fall flowers? Think that blue and purple have no place in an autumn color palette? Think again. Sumac, oak leaf hydrangea, goldenrod, bluestar amnosia, berries, succulents – the list goes on. So many beautiful flowers of fall combine to produce a unique palette for quilts and sewing projects, and one that brings in cool colors to a traditionally warm palette.
Foliage
The first sign of fall is the first falling leaf from every tree. And there’s no more classic palette for an autumn project than fall foliage. The bright red of maples, the gold of oak leaves, happy yellows of birch leaves, and the dark green of pine trees presents a stunning contrast that beautifully lends itself to a fall sewing project. What better way to celebrate fall than to wrap yourself in a blanket or scarf of these fall foliage colors while you sip a mug of warm cider by a fire.
